Hurricane Ike - Anahuac
This set of pictures were given to me by a friend who lives in Anahuac. The captions are in first person of her descriptions of the photos. I'm proud to include them in my collection of Hurricanes in Southeast Texas.

Hurricane Ike - Gilchrist
The roads were closed to the public for quite awhile. And then when they finally were open it was some time before I could get there to see what I had heard about. It was ever bit as bad as I had heard, though even though it was a cold day when we went, the whole area was bustling with construction workers and homeowners trying to put their property back in order or at least cleared off.
Hurricane Ike - Lumberton
Just took a drive up to Lumberton to see how it fared through the storm. Circled through Country Lane, over to 69, up Walden Road, and then Old Lumberton Hwy. Considering how far north it is, it took a pretty good hit.
Hurricane Ike - Port Arthur, Port Neches
It was feared Ike's storm surge would breach the levy in Port Arthur, but thankfully it did not. The homes pictured are on LakeShore Drive, right next to the levy. It looks like they held up well. I took a ride out 73. then back up 366 to Port Neches Park, and then back to Hwy 69/297, and saw only a few signs of destruction. But I did not cross the Rainbow Bridge into Bridge City that was devastated from the surge.
Hurricane Ike - Beaumont
Hurricane Ike, Cat 2, struck Galveston on Sept 13; however wind field and storm surge were equivolant to a Cat 4. Beaumont sustained some wind damage as it was in the "dirty side" of the storm but was far enough inland to not be susceptible to the damages from the storm surge. Power outages and boil water notices were a problem for about a week. The town did have manditory evacuation for that first week, however I did not evacuate.
